Total execution time for a 20-minute audio track dropped from 48 minutes to 6.2 minutes. By passing the -mc68882 compiler flag in Think C, all sin/cos and sqrt operations compile directly to FPU opcodes. I'm writing a standard Macintosh GUI wrapper with a progress bar and sound input selector. -- Takeshi Moreau Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of RWTH Aachen Informatik. ------------------------------------------------------------ From lito@cern.ch Sat Sep 07 04:46:10 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!cern!lito From: lito@cern.ch (Lucia Ito) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Question: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1996Sep07.044610.7079@cern.ch> Date: Sat, 07 Sep 1996 04:46:10 GMT References: <1996Sep06.165010.6137@rwth-aachen.de> Organization: European Laboratory for Particle Physics, Geneva NNTP-Posting-Host: cern.ch X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 8 In article <1996Sep06.165010.6137@rwth-aachen.de>, tmoreau@rwth-aachen.de (Takeshi Moreau) writes: > Compiling stardust.c with Think C 6.0 vs MPW C with direct 68882 inlining. Mac users bragging about 6-minute render times while Unix workstations do it in 20 seconds. Classic Apple distortion field. -- Lucia Ito Tape trading list upon request.
