Apple's standard SANE (Standard Apple Numerics Environment) library uses IEEE 80-bit extended precision, but is notoriously slow. A 1024-point radix-2 FFT drops from 142 milliseconds under SANE to just 18 milliseconds using direct FPU instructions. Anyone running this on a Quadra 840AV with the 68040? -- Graham Watanabe Tape trading list upon request. SASE required for international mail. The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds. -- Thiago Souza Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (DGSCA). ------------------------------------------------------------ From msantos@purdue.edu Thu Mar 16 19:24:27 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!jpgate!kamome!purdue!msantos From: msantos@purdue.edu (Mei Santos) Newsgroups: comp.sys.m68k Subject: Re: Benchmarking FFT routines on Mac IIci with MC68882 FPU under System 7.5 Message-ID: <1995Mar16.192427.4055@purdue.edu> Date: Thu, 16 Mar 1995 19:24:27 GMT References: <1995Mar14.031027.1266@earthlink.net> <1995Mar15.172627.1050@unam.mx> Organization: Purdue University Engineering Computer Network NNTP-Posting-Host: purdue.edu X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 9 In article <1995Mar15.172627.1050@unam.mx>, tsouza@unam.mx (Thiago Souza) writes: > The 68040 on the Quadra is a monster -- the on-chip FPU executes FFT butterflies in less than 4 milliseconds.
