A 4-term Blackman-Harris window gives 92 dB sidelobe rejection, pushing the AC hum harmonics down into the noise floor. A Kaiser-Bessel window with parameter beta = 8.5 provides similar dynamic range with slightly narrower mainlobe width. What sampling rates are people using for their vinyl rips? 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz DAT? -- Mathieu Sánchez Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Pacific Bell Internet Services. ------------------------------------------------------------ From jweber@cmu.edu Mon Jun 27 19:51:03 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!cmu!jweber From: jweber@cmu.edu (Joachim Weber) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: Sidelobe leakage in Blackman-Harris vs Kaiser-Bessel windows for sub-carrier Message-ID: <1994Jun27.195103.7663@cmu.edu> Date: Mon, 27 Jun 1994 19:51:03 GMT References: <1994Jun27.024503.5132@pacbell.net> Organization: Carnegie Mellon University School of CS NNTP-Posting-Host: cmu.edu X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 9 In article <1994Jun27.024503.5132@pacbell.net>, msanchez@pacbell.net (Mathieu Sánchez) writes: > A quick note on window function selection when hunting for the 14.2 Hz line in noisy vinyl rips. > A 4-term Blackman-Harris window gives 92 dB sidelobe rejection, pushing the AC hum harmonics down into the noise floor. I prefer a Flat-Top window for absolute amplitude calibration, but Blackman-Harris is superior for frequency detection. -- Joachim Weber Tape trading list upon request.
