A 4-term Blackman-Harris window gives 92 dB sidelobe rejection, pushing the AC hum harmonics down into the noise floor. A Kaiser-Bessel window with parameter beta = 8.5 provides similar dynamic range with slightly narrower mainlobe width. Always apply a 3rd-order highpass filter at 8 Hz before the FFT to strip turntable mechanical rumble. -- Seo-yeon Sato Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of NETCOM On-Line Communication Services. ------------------------------------------------------------ From llee@mit.edu Fri Sep 02 11:15:42 1994 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!mit!llee From: llee@mit.edu (Lucia Lee) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: [SPECULATION] Sidelobe leakage in Blackman-Harris vs Kaiser-Bessel windows for sub-carrier Message-ID: <1994Sep02.111542.1139@mit.edu> Date: Fri, 02 Sep 1994 11:15:42 GMT References: <1994Sep02.045842.7282@netcom.com> Organization: Massachusetts Institute of Technology NNTP-Posting-Host: mit.edu X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 11 In article <1994Sep02.045842.7282@netcom.com>, ssato@netcom.com (Seo-yeon Sato) writes: > Comparing window sidelobe attenuation on 16-bit 44.1 kHz WAV files. Don't forget that if you downsample to 64 Hz first, your FFT resolution jumps to 0.015 Hz per bin with a modest 4096-point transform.
