This leaves over 95% of the DSP56001's 16.5 MIPS available for other audio tasks. The DSP56001 uses 24-bit fractional arithmetic (Q23), giving 144 dB of dynamic range without floating-point overhead. Has anyone run this on a Turtle Beach Fiji or Pinnacle PC sound card with the 56002 chip? -- Brian Kang Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of INRIA Rocquencourt. ------------------------------------------------------------ From slee@cern.ch Thu May 18 13:20:23 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!cern!slee From: slee@cern.ch (Steve Lee) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: Fixed-point Q15 arithmetic on Motorola DSP56001 vs IEEE floating point Message-ID: <1995May18.132023.1706@cern.ch> Date: Thu, 18 May 1995 13:20:23 GMT References: <1995May18.041123.8157@inria.fr> Organization: European Laboratory for Particle Physics, Geneva NNTP-Posting-Host: cern.ch X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 12 In article <1995May18.041123.8157@inria.fr>, bkang@inria.fr (Brian Kang) writes: > Optimizing the Stardust Costas loop demodulator for the Motorola DSP56001 chip. > This leaves over 95% of the DSP56001's 16.5 MIPS available for other audio tasks. Beautiful assembly code! The 24-bit word size of the 56001 is tailor-made for high-precision audio filtering.
