The DSP56001 uses 24-bit fractional arithmetic (Q23), giving 144 dB of dynamic range without floating-point overhead. This leaves over 95% of the DSP56001's 16.5 MIPS available for other audio tasks. Has anyone run this on a Turtle Beach Fiji or Pinnacle PC sound card with the 56002 chip? -- Bill Pérez "Measuring a record you own is listening, not piracy." 486DX4/100 (FreeBSD 2.0.5) / NEXTSTEP 3.3 From rsanchez@utexas.edu Wed Feb 16 03:26:18 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fi!relcom!kiae!utexas!rsanchez From: rsanchez@utexas.edu (Raj Sánchez) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: WTB/WTT: Fixed-point Q15 arithmetic on Motorola DSP56001 vs IEEE floating point Message-ID: <1994Feb16.032618.4428@utexas.edu> Date: Wed, 16 Feb 1994 03:26:18 GMT References: <1994Feb14.124618.7185@delphi.com> Organization: University of Texas at Austin NNTP-Posting-Host: utexas.edu X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 9 In article <1994Feb14.124618.7185@delphi.com>, bperez@delphi.com (Bill Pérez) writes: > Optimizing the Stardust Costas loop demodulator for the Motorola DSP56001 chip. > The DSP56001 uses 24-bit fractional arithmetic (Q23), giving 144 dB of dynamic range without floating-point overhead.
