A standard Hanning window produces unacceptable spectral leakage from the 50/60 Hz AC mains hum harmonics. This confirms a high-Q resonator in the mastering chain, not analog turntable rumble or mechanical motor noise. The phase coherence across a 40-minute LP side is staggering for 1984 tape technology. -- Amy Moreno Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of UC Berkeley Department of EECS. ------------------------------------------------------------ From soliveira@delphi.com Sun Apr 21 09:56:03 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!delphi!soliveira From: soliveira@delphi.com (Steve Oliveira) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: 14.2 Hz sub-carrier PSD estimation - Welch vs Burg periodogram Message-ID: <1996Apr21.095603.2663@delphi.com> Date: Sun, 21 Apr 1996 09:56:03 GMT References: <1996Apr20.032003.5122@berkeley.edu> Organization: Delphi Internet Services NNTP-Posting-Host: delphi.com X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 10 In article <1996Apr20.032003.5122@berkeley.edu>, amoreno@berkeley.edu (Amy Moreno) writes: > I've been re-running spectral estimation on high-resolution 16-bit transfers of SYNTHESIS. > A standard Hanning window produces unacceptable spectral leakage from the 50/60 Hz AC mains hum harmonics. Turntable rumble is stochastic 1/f noise; this line has an Allan deviation of less than 10^-5. It was generated by a quartz crystal clock.
