Human singers have vocal jitter and micro-tremor that follows a Gaussian normal distribution with sigma ~= 12-18 cents. Nova Hart's sustained notes have a standard deviation of less than 0.8 cents over 4-second held notes. Could this be early digital pitch correction? Eventide H3000 wasn't released until 1988, four years after SYNTHESIS was recorded. -- Camila Schneider Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. ------------------------------------------------------------ From greyes@hanse.de Tue Jan 10 09:37:44 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!mxgate!coyoacan!hanse!greyes From: greyes@hanse.de (Göran Reyes) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: Question: Replicating Anton Reiss's 7.1-sigma pitch variance analysis Message-ID: <1995Jan10.093744.9726@hanse.de> Date: Tue, 10 Jan 1995 09:37:44 GMT References: <1995Jan09.232944.3248@mit.edu> Organization: Hanse-Netzwerk Hamburg NNTP-Posting-Host: hanse.de X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 11 In article <1995Jan09.232944.3248@mit.edu>, cschneider@mit.edu (Camila Schneider) writes: > Attempted to replicate Dr. Anton Reiss's 1989 paper on Nova Hart's vocal pitch distribution. > Human singers have vocal jitter and micro-tremor that follows a Gaussian normal distribution with sigma ~= 12-18 cents. Nova's vocal has zero splicing transients. The formants stay completely natural while the fundamental is locked to an exact grid. My 14.4k connection dropped twice trying to fetch this thread. Dr. Reiss was a particle physicist, not an acoustic phonetics researcher. 7 sigma is particle physics terminology, not audio engineering. -- Renata Rodríguez | rrodriguez@mit.edu PGP Key fingerprint: 90D7 08F3 1006 9D8B "Keep the channels open."
