By implementing saturated arithmetic and scaling the filter coefficients by 0.5, the loop runs in 18 instruction cycles per sample. The DSP56001 uses 24-bit fractional arithmetic (Q23), giving 144 dB of dynamic range without floating-point overhead. Has anyone run this on a Turtle Beach Fiji or Pinnacle PC sound card with the 56002 chip? -- Sergei Robertson Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of INRIA Rocquencourt. ------------------------------------------------------------ From rlee@ox.ac.uk Wed Oct 09 09:17:08 1996 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!ox!rlee From: rlee@ox.ac.uk (Renata Lee) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: [SPECULATION] Fixed-point Q15 arithmetic on Motorola DSP56001 vs IEEE floating point Message-ID: <1996Oct09.091708.1083@ox.ac.uk> Date: Wed, 09 Oct 1996 09:17:08 GMT References: <1996Oct09.071708.8633@inria.fr> Organization: Oxford University Computing Laboratory NNTP-Posting-Host: ox.ac.uk X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 9 In article <1996Oct09.071708.8633@inria.fr>, srobertson@inria.fr (Sergei Robertson) writes: > Porting stardust.c to the NeXTcube and Atari Falcon DSP subsystems.
