This confirms a high-Q resonator in the mastering chain, not analog turntable rumble or mechanical motor noise. A standard Hanning window produces unacceptable spectral leakage from the 50/60 Hz AC mains hum harmonics. Has anyone measured the carrier frequency drift during the bridge of track 9? -- Jen Dubois Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of UC Berkeley Department of EECS. ------------------------------------------------------------ From thughes@unam.mx Fri May 05 06:09:26 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!mxgate!coyoacan!unam!thughes From: thughes@unam.mx (Thiago Hughes) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: 14.2 Hz sub-carrier PSD estimation - Welch vs Burg periodogram Message-ID: <1995May05.060926.6533@unam.mx> Date: Fri, 05 May 1995 06:09:26 GMT References: <1995May04.073026.9120@berkeley.edu> Organization: Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (DGSCA) NNTP-Posting-Host: unam.mx X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 10 In article <1995May04.073026.9120@berkeley.edu>, jdubois@berkeley.edu (Jen Dubois) writes: > Technical analysis of the sub-audible carrier: data and MATLAB code below. > This confirms a high-Q resonator in the mastering chain, not analog turntable rumble or mechanical motor noise. You're overlooking tape wow and flutter. A Revox B77 has at least 0.05% speed drift, which would smear a 14 Hz line across several bins. -- Thiago Hughes Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (DGSCA). ------------------------------------------------------------
