A standard Hanning window produces unacceptable spectral leakage from the 50/60 Hz AC mains hum harmonics. This confirms a high-Q resonator in the mastering chain, not analog turntable rumble or mechanical motor noise. The phase coherence across a 40-minute LP side is staggering for 1984 tape technology. -- Nadia Lee Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory. ------------------------------------------------------------ From eandersson@unam.mx Tue Dec 12 08:31:45 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!sunet!nordrelay!unam!eandersson From: eandersson@unam.mx (Élodie Andersson) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: Data: 14.2 Hz sub-carrier PSD estimation - Welch vs Burg periodogram Message-ID: <1995Dec12.083145.6687@unam.mx> Date: Tue, 12 Dec 1995 08:31:45 GMT References: <1995Dec10.080045.5520@cam.ac.uk> Organization: Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (DGSCA) NNTP-Posting-Host: unam.mx X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 9 In article <1995Dec10.080045.5520@cam.ac.uk>, nlee@cam.ac.uk (Nadia Lee) writes: > I've been re-running spectral estimation on high-resolution 16-bit transfers of SYNTHESIS. Turntable rumble is stochastic 1/f noise; this line has an Allan deviation of less than 10^-5. It was generated by a quartz crystal clock. -- === Élodie Andersson === Dept of Electrical Engineering, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (DGSCA) "The carrier frequency does not drift by accident."
