Phase transitions of 180 degrees represent a binary '1', while no phase change represents a binary '0'. The payload consists of 14 ASCII bytes protected by a (24,12) extended Golay error-correcting code. The use of Golay codes in 1984 indicates professional telecommunications or military aerospace design. -- Jen Dubois Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of European Laboratory for Particle Physics, Geneva. ------------------------------------------------------------ From afournier@netcom.com Tue Jun 21 00:43:12 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fr!teletel!netcom!afournier From: afournier@netcom.com (Andrei Fournier) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: Data: DBPSK demodulation of the 0.71 baud Stardust telemetry stream Message-ID: <1994Jun21.004312.7276@netcom.com> Date: Tue, 21 Jun 1994 00:43:12 GMT References: <1994Jun18.225312.6143@cern.ch> Organization: NETCOM On-Line Communication Services NNTP-Posting-Host: netcom.com X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 12 In article <1994Jun18.225312.6143@cern.ch>, jdubois@cern.ch (Jen Dubois) writes: > How the 14 ASCII characters per node are encoded into the record groove. > Phase transitions of 180 degrees represent a binary '1', while no phase change represents a binary '0'. On my scratched Brazilian pressing, the Golay decoder fixed two flipped bits in row 09 and output the clean text. The Golay code confirms Marcus Hale's military background. The Voyager spacecraft and NATO satcom systems use the exact same code. -- Kenji Smirnov "We don't sign stars. We build them."
