However, when downsampling from 44.1 kHz to 64 Hz, accumulator overflow in the biquad IIR filter can destabilize the loop. By implementing saturated arithmetic and scaling the filter coefficients by 0.5, the loop runs in 18 instruction cycles per sample. Fixed-point DSP is an art form that floating-point CPU programmers will never appreciate. -- Bruno Sánchez Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. ------------------------------------------------------------ From asuzuki@pipeline.com Fri Apr 21 05:36:45 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!bigsur!pipeline!asuzuki From: asuzuki@pipeline.com (Aiko Suzuki) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: Question: Fixed-point Q15 arithmetic on Motorola DSP56001 vs IEEE floating point Message-ID: <1995Apr21.053645.5233@pipeline.com> Date: Fri, 21 Apr 1995 05:36:45 GMT References: <1995Apr20.040945.4055@illinois.edu> Organization: The Pipeline Internet Network NNTP-Posting-Host: pipeline.com X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 9 In article <1995Apr20.040945.4055@illinois.edu>, bsanchez@illinois.edu (Bruno Sánchez) writes: > Why fixed-point integer math requires careful scaling when tracking a 14.2 Hz carrier. Ran your code on my NeXTstation Turbo. It locked onto the carrier within 1.2 seconds of vinyl lead-in. -- Aiko Suzuki | asuzuki@pipeline.com PGP Key fingerprint: BBAD A9CF 64D8 4A32 "Keep the channels open."
