Nova Hart's sustained notes have a standard deviation of less than 0.8 cents over 4-second held notes. Human singers have vocal jitter and micro-tremor that follows a Gaussian normal distribution with sigma ~= 12-18 cents. Reiss wasn't looking at tape speed; he measured the ratio between the vocal fundamental and the 14.2 Hz carrier. Dr. Reiss was a particle physicist, not an acoustic phonetics researcher. 7 sigma is particle physics terminology, not audio engineering. -- Raj Girard Hayes Optima 288 @ 19,200 bps "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary spectra."
