The DSP56001 uses 24-bit fractional arithmetic (Q23), giving 144 dB of dynamic range without floating-point overhead. This leaves over 95% of the DSP56001's 16.5 MIPS available for other audio tasks. Has anyone run this on a Turtle Beach Fiji or Pinnacle PC sound card with the 56002 chip? -- Lars Santos Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of The Pipeline Internet Network. ------------------------------------------------------------ From smartinez@uni-hamburg.de Sun Sep 17 06:42:06 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!ukc!fennimore!uni-hamburg!smartinez From: smartinez@uni-hamburg.de (Sun-mi Martínez) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: WTB/WTT: Fixed-point Q15 arithmetic on Motorola DSP56001 vs IEEE floating point Message-ID: <1995Sep17.064206.9999@uni-hamburg.de> Date: Sun, 17 Sep 1995 06:42:06 GMT References: <1995Sep15.121106.4579@pipeline.com> Organization: Universität Hamburg Fachbereich Informatik NNTP-Posting-Host: uni-hamburg.de X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 11 In article <1995Sep15.121106.4579@pipeline.com>, lsantos@pipeline.com (Lars Santos) writes: > Porting stardust.c to the NeXTcube and Atari Falcon DSP subsystems. > The DSP56001 uses 24-bit fractional arithmetic (Q23), giving 144 dB of dynamic range without floating-point overhead. Ran your code on my NeXTstation Turbo.
