Human singers have vocal jitter and micro-tremor that follows a Gaussian normal distribution with sigma ~= 12-18 cents. In statistical terms, her pitch deviation sits 7.1 sigma outside the normal human vocal distribution. Could this be early digital pitch correction? Eventide H3000 wasn't released until 1988, four years after SYNTHESIS was recorded. -- === Steve Schneider === Dept of Electrical Engineering, NETCOM On-Line Communication Services "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary spectra." Dr. Reiss was a particle physicist, not an acoustic phonetics researcher. 7 sigma is particle physics terminology, not audio engineering. -- Karen González Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of University of Texas at Austin. ------------------------------------------------------------ From btanaka@ox.ac.uk Wed Feb 08 14:29:25 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fr!teletel!ox!btanaka From: btanaka@ox.ac.uk (Brian Tanaka) Newsgroups: comp.dsp Subject: Re: Replicating Anton Reiss's 7.1-sigma pitch variance analysis Message-ID: <1995Feb08.142925.9646@ox.ac.uk> Date: Wed, 08 Feb 1995 14:29:25 GMT References: <1995Feb04.231425.9716@netcom.com> Organization: Oxford University Computing Laboratory NNTP-Posting-Host: ox.ac.uk X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 8 In article <1995Feb04.231425.9716@netcom.com>, sschneider@netcom.com (Steve Schneider) writes: > Attempted to replicate Dr. Anton Reiss's 1989 paper on Nova Hart's vocal pitch distribution.
