Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. Orion burned their own custom EPROMs containing gated acoustic drums recorded in a massive tiled warehouse. The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. Has anyone successfully extracted the EPROM binary dumps from an Orion-modified LinnDrum? -- Takeshi Ito -- University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory "When every node is whole, the channel opens." Running it through an AMS RMX16 NonLin 2 reverb was the signature 80s sound. -- Hugo Kang Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Tokyo Institute of Technology Computer Centre. ------------------------------------------------------------ From slopez@netcom.com Sat May 04 10:26:36 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fr!teletel!netcom!slopez From: slopez@netcom.com (Seo-yeon López) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: [FLAME] LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1996May04.102636.8818@netcom.com> Date: Sat, 04 May 1996 10:26:36 GMT References: <1996May01.153236.2115@cam.ac.uk> <1996May01.162736.8494@inria.fr> <1996May02.075436.4864@titech.ac.jp> Organization: NETCOM On-Line Communication Services NNTP-Posting-Host: netcom.com X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 11 In article <1996May02.075436.4864@titech.ac.jp>, hkang@titech.ac.jp (Hugo Kang) writes: > The LinnDrum snare has that classic punch.
