Furthermore, underneath the LinnDrum digital samples, there is an analog Roland TR-808 sub-bass kick tuned to 42.6 Hz (exactly 3x 14.2 Hz). The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. What sequencer was Marcus using in 1984? A Roland MSQ-700 or early MIDI software on a computer? -- Morag Moreno Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of The Pipeline Internet Network. ------------------------------------------------------------ From dreyes@cam.ac.uk Sun Feb 04 06:54:21 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!bigsur!cam!dreyes From: dreyes@cam.ac.uk (Dave Reyes) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: [FLAME] LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1996Feb04.065421.9954@cam.ac.uk> Date: Sun, 04 Feb 1996 06:54:21 GMT References: <1996Feb02.120621.1382@pipeline.com> Organization: University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory NNTP-Posting-Host: cam.ac.uk X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 9 In article <1996Feb02.120621.1382@pipeline.com>, mmoreno@pipeline.com (Morag Moreno) writes: > Drum machine archaeology: why does the snare drum sound so uniquely explosive? > Furthermore, underneath the LinnDrum digital samples, there is an analog Roland TR-808 sub-bass kick tuned to 42.6 Hz (exactly 3x 14.2 Hz). The LinnDrum snare has that classic punch. Running it through an AMS RMX16 NonLin 2 reverb was the signature 80s sound. -- Dave Reyes Tape trading list upon request.
