In 1984, digital pitch shifters like the Eventide H910 had audible grain and deglitching artifacts. Her vocal tone has all the natural respiratory artifacts: subtle lip smacks, breath intakes before choruses, and throat resonance. How did they program the subtle emotional cracks in her voice? Was it a neural weight matrix or manual automation? -- Bill Dubois *PLONK* filter active for trolls. 486DX4/100 (FreeBSD 2.0.5) - NetBSD 1.0 From nsilva@hanse.de Sat Sep 23 06:44:12 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!hanse!nsilva From: nsilva@hanse.de (Natalia Silva) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: [SPECULATION] The sound of the 'Vocal Matrix' - pitch quantization vs human formant Message-ID: <1995Sep23.064412.4415@hanse.de> Date: Sat, 23 Sep 1995 06:44:12 GMT References: <1995Sep22.185312.5161@netcom.com> Organization: Hanse-Netzwerk Hamburg NNTP-Posting-Host: hanse.de X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 8 In article <1995Sep22.185312.5161@netcom.com>, bdubois@netcom.com (Bill Dubois) writes: > As an audio engineer, listening to Nova's vocals on SYNTHESIS has always bothered me in a fascinating way. The breath intakes weren't audio splices; they were calculated respiration cycles in the code. -- Heather Santos "Marcus is not one man." Commodore Amiga 500 (1MB OCS) / Linux 1.2.13
