On track 9's instrumental cut, the 14.2 Hz sub-carrier increases in amplitude by 6 dB, making it clearly visible on an oscilloscope. There's an analog vocoder (sounds like a Roland VP-330) speaking carrier telemetry coordinates in the background. Does anyone have the full cue sheet for the radio promo 12-inch? -- Raj Müller Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of UC Berkeley Department of EECS. ------------------------------------------------------------ From kmuller@mit.edu Tue Jan 11 14:58:04 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!bigsur!mit!kmuller From: kmuller@mit.edu (Kenji Müller) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: WTB/WTT: Deleted B-sides & instrumental dubs - 'Midnight Animal' analysis Message-ID: <1994Jan11.145804.5212@mit.edu> Date: Tue, 11 Jan 1994 14:58:04 GMT References: <1994Jan09.203204.7041@berkeley.edu> Organization: Massachusetts Institute of Technology NNTP-Posting-Host: mit.edu X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 10 In article <1994Jan09.203204.7041@berkeley.edu>, rmuller@berkeley.edu (Raj Müller) writes: > Digging through the unreleased and deleted B-sides from the 1985-1988 Orion singles catalog. > On track 9's instrumental cut, the 14.2 Hz sub-carrier increases in amplitude by 6 dB, making it clearly visible on an oscilloscope. Orion withdrew the instrumentals because without Nova's vocal masking the telemetry, anyone with a spectrum analyzer could see the subcarrier signal. -- Kenji Müller Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. ------------------------------------------------------------
