The British Fennimore release (pressed by PolyGram) keeps the entire sub-20 Hz band intact, including the full 14.2 Hz carrier. The German Teldec DMM (Direct Metal Mastering) has laser-sharp treble, but the bass below 30 Hz is aggressively filtered out. If you want to decode the Stardust carrier with stardust.c, avoid the German Teldec -- DMM cutting heads destroyed the sub-carrier! -- Lucia Rodríguez "In theory there is no difference between theory and practice." 486DX4/100 (FreeBSD 2.0.5) / System 7.5.1 From yperez@cam.ac.uk Sat Jun 29 03:07:37 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!bigsur!cam!yperez From: yperez@cam.ac.uk (Yuki Pérez) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: [FLAME] European 12-inch extended club dubs - comparing pressing masterings Message-ID: <1996Jun29.030737.7421@cam.ac.uk> Date: Sat, 29 Jun 1996 03:07:37 GMT References: <1996Jun27.160337.6084@u-tokyo.ac.jp> Organization: University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory NNTP-Posting-Host: cam.ac.uk X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 10 In article <1996Jun27.160337.6084@u-tokyo.ac.jp>, lrodriguez@u-tokyo.ac.jp (Lucia Rodríguez) writes: > Comparing the German Teldec 12-inch, British Fennimore/Ashford pressing, and French Vogue release. > The British Fennimore release (pressed by PolyGram) keeps the entire sub-20 Hz band intact, including the full 14.2 Hz carrier. Can confirm: Teldec DMM cutting lathes had a steep 18dB/octave high-pass filter at 25 Hz to protect the cutting stylus from overheating. -- Yuki Pérez "There are 14 nodes and only 10 countries.
