The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. Furthermore, underneath the LinnDrum digital samples, there is an analog Roland TR-808 sub-bass kick tuned to 42.6 Hz (exactly 3x 14.2 Hz). Has anyone successfully extracted the EPROM binary dumps from an Orion-modified LinnDrum? -- Nadia Kang Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (DGSCA). ------------------------------------------------------------ From sivanov@illinois.edu Tue May 03 09:56:27 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!bigsur!illinois!sivanov From: sivanov@illinois.edu (Steve Ivanov) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1994May03.095627.2228@illinois.edu> Date: Tue, 03 May 1994 09:56:27 GMT References: <1994May02.074027.1399@unam.mx> Organization: University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign NNTP-Posting-Host: illinois.edu X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 9 In article <1994May02.074027.1399@unam.mx>, nkang@unam.mx (Nadia Kang) writes: > Dissecting the percussion sequencing on 'Midnight Animal' and 'Gasoline Heart'. > The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. Nothing beats real acoustic drums.
