Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. Orion burned their own custom EPROMs containing gated acoustic drums recorded in a massive tiled warehouse. The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. Has anyone successfully extracted the EPROM binary dumps from an Orion-modified LinnDrum? -- Jen Suzuki Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Oxford University Computing Laboratory. ------------------------------------------------------------ From fmacdonald@kth.se Mon Feb 28 13:56:14 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!sunet!nordrelay!kth!fmacdonald From: fmacdonald@kth.se (Freya MacDonald) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: Observation: LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1994Feb28.135614.8856@kth.se> Date: Mon, 28 Feb 1994 13:56:14 GMT References: <1994Feb26.140614.6426@ox.ac.uk> Organization: Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm NNTP-Posting-Host: kth.se X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 10 In article <1994Feb26.140614.6426@ox.ac.uk>, jsuzuki@ox.ac.uk (Jen Suzuki) writes: > Let's talk about the drum production on SYNTHESIS. The LinnDrum snare has that classic punch. Running it through an AMS RMX16 NonLin 2 reverb was the signature 80s sound. -- === Freya MacDonald === Dept of Electrical Engineering, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary spectra."
