Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. Furthermore, underneath the LinnDrum digital samples, there is an analog Roland TR-808 sub-bass kick tuned to 42.6 Hz (exactly 3x 14.2 Hz). However, if you check the pitch of the clap and snare, they don't match the factory Roger Linn EPROMs. Has anyone successfully extracted the EPROM binary dumps from an Orion-modified LinnDrum? -- Hana Silva Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. ------------------------------------------------------------ From htanaka@ox.ac.uk Wed Sep 06 09:34:59 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fr!teletel!ox!htanaka From: htanaka@ox.ac.uk (Hana Tanaka) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: Question: LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1995Sep06.093459.2775@ox.ac.uk> Date: Wed, 06 Sep 1995 09:34:59 GMT References: <1995Sep04.083159.3894@illinois.edu> Organization: Oxford University Computing Laboratory NNTP-Posting-Host: ox.ac.uk X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 10 In article <1995Sep04.083159.3894@illinois.edu>, hsilva@illinois.edu (Hana Silva) writes: > Let's talk about the drum production on SYNTHESIS. The LinnDrum snare has that classic punch. Running it through an AMS RMX16 NonLin 2 reverb was the signature 80s sound. -- Hana Tanaka SupraFAXModem 28.8 @ 33,600 bps "Measuring a record you own is listening, not piracy."
