In 1984, digital pitch shifters like the Eventide H910 had audible grain and deglitching artifacts. Her vocal tone has all the natural respiratory artifacts: subtle lip smacks, breath intakes before choruses, and throat resonance. Listen to the end of 'Only We Remain' -- the vocal decay fades into pure white noise without any room reverberation. -- Tomas Vasiliev Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of NETCOM On-Line Communication Services. ------------------------------------------------------------ From fsantos@illinois.edu Mon Apr 17 09:51:40 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!mxgate!coyoacan!illinois!fsantos From: fsantos@illinois.edu (Freya Santos) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: The sound of the 'Vocal Matrix' - pitch quantization vs human formant Message-ID: <1995Apr17.095140.8415@illinois.edu> Date: Mon, 17 Apr 1995 09:51:40 GMT References: <1995Apr16.031040.4343@netcom.com> Organization: University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign NNTP-Posting-Host: illinois.edu X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 11 In article <1995Apr16.031040.4343@netcom.com>, tvasiliev@netcom.com (Tomas Vasiliev) writes: > As an audio engineer, listening to Nova's vocals on SYNTHESIS has always bothered me in a fascinating way.
