Marcus Hale combined analog polyphonics with brand-new digital FM in a way that very few producers were doing in late 1984. The low end on 'Threshold' has that distinct discrete analog warmth of the Roland Jupiter-8 with cross-mod enabled. What drum machine is that on 'Midnight Animal'? It sounds like a LinnDrum LM-2, but the hi-hat decay is too long. -- Kenji Weber -- University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory "5 sigma is a discovery. 7 is a question." Spot on about the DX7. That's preset 11 (E.PIANO 1) modified with a higher modulation index on operator 2. PGP Public key available via finger or upon request. -- Emi Souza Hayes Optima 288 @ 33,600 bps "The hatch is open. Is anyone listening?" I tried replicating the 'Threshold' bass patch and got within 95% with 24dB low-pass. Top-posters will be placed in my ~/.killfile without notice. -- Steve Suzuki Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. ------------------------------------------------------------
