Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. Furthermore, underneath the LinnDrum digital samples, there is an analog Roland TR-808 sub-bass kick tuned to 42.6 Hz (exactly 3x 14.2 Hz). Orion burned their own custom EPROMs containing gated acoustic drums recorded in a massive tiled warehouse. Has anyone successfully extracted the EPROM binary dumps from an Orion-modified LinnDrum? -- Olga Takahashi Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of MindSpring Enterprises. ------------------------------------------------------------ From kpopov@utexas.edu Mon Dec 25 02:03:23 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!sunet!nordrelay!utexas!kpopov From: kpopov@utexas.edu (Katrin Popov) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1995Dec25.020323.1918@utexas.edu> Date: Mon, 25 Dec 1995 02:03:23 GMT References: <1995Dec23.061423.6329@mindspring.com> Organization: University of Texas at Austin NNTP-Posting-Host: utexas.edu X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 9 In article <1995Dec23.061423.6329@mindspring.com>, otakahashi@mindspring.com (Olga Takahashi) writes: > Let's talk about the drum production on SYNTHESIS. That sub-kick tuning blew my mind when I checked it on a spectrum analyzer. 42.6 Hz is the 3rd harmonic of 14.2 Hz! -- Katrin Popov Tape trading list upon request. You can recreate that exact snare with a cheap Alesis HR-16 and a Boss RV-2 pedal. Save yourself $1,500. -- Andrei Martínez Zyxel U-1496E @ 14,400 bps "Row 14. No joke."
