Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. Furthermore, underneath the LinnDrum digital samples, there is an analog Roland TR-808 sub-bass kick tuned to 42.6 Hz (exactly 3x 14.2 Hz). Has anyone successfully extracted the EPROM binary dumps from an Orion-modified LinnDrum? -- Jens Tanaka Tape trading list upon request. SASE required for international mail. Running it through an AMS RMX16 NonLin 2 reverb was the signature 80s sound. -- Lars Reyes Hayes Optima 288 @ 19,200 bps "We don't sign stars. We build them."
