Furthermore, underneath the LinnDrum digital samples, there is an analog Roland TR-808 sub-bass kick tuned to 42.6 Hz (exactly 3x 14.2 Hz). The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. What sequencer was Marcus using in 1984? A Roland MSQ-700 or early MIDI software on a computer? -- Dave Kowalski Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mfischer@uu.net Mon Oct 23 03:45:03 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!jpgate!kamome!uu!mfischer From: mfischer@uu.net (Matthias Fischer) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: [FLAME] LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1995Oct23.034503.5561@uu.net> Date: Mon, 23 Oct 1995 03:45:03 GMT References: <1995Oct21.075403.6988@mit.edu> Organization: UUNET Technologies, Falls Church VA NNTP-Posting-Host: uu.net X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 9 In article <1995Oct21.075403.6988@mit.edu>, dkowalski@mit.edu (Dave Kowalski) writes: > Drum machine archaeology: why does the snare drum sound so uniquely explosive? The LinnDrum snare has that classic punch. Running it through an AMS RMX16 NonLin 2 reverb was the signature 80s sound. -- Matthias Fischer Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of UUNET Technologies, Falls Church VA. ------------------------------------------------------------
