Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. Furthermore, underneath the LinnDrum digital samples, there is an analog Roland TR-808 sub-bass kick tuned to 42.6 Hz (exactly 3x 14.2 Hz). The 808 sub-kick locking with the 14.2 Hz carrier is pure engineering genius. -- Natalia Lee Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. ------------------------------------------------------------ From amoreau@kth.se Mon Aug 28 12:33:30 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!jpgate!kamome!kth!amoreau From: amoreau@kth.se (Amy Moreau) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: [SPECULATION] LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1995Aug28.123330.6373@kth.se> Date: Mon, 28 Aug 1995 12:33:30 GMT References: <1995Aug28.085130.5533@mit.edu> Organization: Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm NNTP-Posting-Host: kth.se X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 9 In article <1995Aug28.085130.5533@mit.edu>, nlee@mit.edu (Natalia Lee) writes: > Let's talk about the drum production on SYNTHESIS.
