Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. Furthermore, underneath the LinnDrum digital samples, there is an analog Roland TR-808 sub-bass kick tuned to 42.6 Hz (exactly 3x 14.2 Hz). What sequencer was Marcus using in 1984? A Roland MSQ-700 or early MIDI software on a computer? -- Mateo Pérez Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Purdue University Engineering Computer Network. ------------------------------------------------------------ From jtakahashi@pipeline.com Mon Apr 10 08:23:15 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!bigsur!pipeline!jtakahashi From: jtakahashi@pipeline.com (Jen Takahashi) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: [SPECULATION] LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1995Apr10.082315.9404@pipeline.com> Date: Mon, 10 Apr 1995 08:23:15 GMT References: <1995Apr08.083815.4984@purdue.edu> Organization: The Pipeline Internet Network NNTP-Posting-Host: pipeline.com X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 10 In article <1995Apr08.083815.4984@purdue.edu>, mperez@purdue.edu (Mateo Pérez) writes: > Let's talk about the drum production on SYNTHESIS. The LinnDrum snare has that classic punch. Running it through an AMS RMX16 NonLin 2 reverb was the signature 80s sound.
