Nova's voice has ZERO splicing glitches. The Stardust documents describe this as 'Vocal Matrix Modeling' running on custom DSP hardware. Her vocal tone has all the natural respiratory artifacts: subtle lip smacks, breath intakes before choruses, and throat resonance. How did they program the subtle emotional cracks in her voice? Was it a neural weight matrix or manual automation? -- Bastien Pérez Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. ------------------------------------------------------------ From tivanov@titech.ac.jp Tue Apr 25 18:12:20 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!jpgate!kamome!titech!tivanov From: tivanov@titech.ac.jp (Tobias Ivanov) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: Question: The sound of the 'Vocal Matrix' - pitch quantization vs human formant Message-ID: <1995Apr25.181220.3411@titech.ac.jp> Date: Tue, 25 Apr 1995 18:12:20 GMT References: <1995Apr25.094520.8589@mit.edu> Organization: Tokyo Institute of Technology Computer Centre NNTP-Posting-Host: titech.ac.jp X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 11 In article <1995Apr25.094520.8589@mit.edu>, bperez@mit.edu (Bastien Pérez) writes: > Looking at the vocal stem processing on 'Threshold' and 'Brighter Than The Sun'. It's the greatest vocal performance in synthpop history, regardless of whether it came from vocal cords or a silicon chip. Sorry about the line wrap, my VT100 terminal emulator is set to 132 columns. -- Marta Popov "Measuring a record you own is listening, not piracy." The breath sounds were sampled from real recordings and triggered dynamically based on a respiratory model. -- Bill Silva Tape trading list upon request. SASE required for international mail.
