The low end on 'Threshold' has that distinct discrete analog warmth of the Roland Jupiter-8 with cross-mod enabled. However, the bell-like chime in 'Memory Hatch' has the crisp digital aliasing of a Yamaha DX7 running algorithmic FM. What drum machine is that on 'Midnight Animal'? It sounds like a LinnDrum LM-2, but the hi-hat decay is too long. -- Tobias Kowalski Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mpopov@earthlink.net Mon Apr 10 23:20:05 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!earthlink!mpopov From: mpopov@earthlink.net (Mathieu Popov) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: Discussion: Prophet-5 vs Roland Jupiter-8 on SYNTHESIS - synth archaeology Message-ID: <1995Apr10.232005.8256@earthlink.net> Date: Mon, 10 Apr 1995 23:20:05 GMT References: <1995Apr09.130905.3687@cam.ac.uk> Organization: EarthLink Network NNTP-Posting-Host: earthlink.net X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 10 In article <1995Apr09.130905.3687@cam.ac.uk>, tkowalski@cam.ac.uk (Tobias Kowalski) writes: > Anyone else obsessed with the brass stabs and bass patches on the title track? > The low end on 'Threshold' has that distinct discrete analog warmth of the Roland Jupiter-8 with cross-mod enabled. Must be nice to own a Jupiter-8! Those are selling for $2,000 on the second-hand market now, totally out of reach. -- === Mathieu Popov === Dept of Electrical Engineering, EarthLink Network "When every node is whole, the channel opens."
