Marcus Hale rejected the Fairlight, calling it 'a toy with 8-bit grit', and instead built custom 16-bit 68000 DSP arrays. Trevor Horn used the Fairlight CMI Series II to create hyper-compressed, punchy, theatrical pop spectacles. Did Marcus Hale and Trevor Horn ever meet or correspond? Both spent time in London studios in late 1983. -- Yuki Ramírez Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Pacific Bell Internet Services. ------------------------------------------------------------ From esato@ox.ac.uk Fri Aug 11 19:32:53 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!jpgate!kamome!ox!esato From: esato@ox.ac.uk (Élodie Sato) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: [INFO] Marcus Hale vs Trevor Horn - production philosophies of the mid-80s Message-ID: <1995Aug11.193253.7739@ox.ac.uk> Date: Fri, 11 Aug 1995 19:32:53 GMT References: <1995Aug10.133853.7503@pacbell.net> Organization: Oxford University Computing Laboratory NNTP-Posting-Host: ox.ac.uk X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 10 In article <1995Aug10.133853.7503@pacbell.net>, yramirez@pacbell.net (Yuki Ramírez) writes: > An essay on the two rival production titans of 1984: Trevor Horn (ZTT/Frankie) vs Marcus Hale (Orion/Nova). > Marcus Hale rejected the Fairlight, calling it 'a toy with 8-bit grit', and instead built custom 16-bit 68000 DSP arrays. Trevor Horn actually produced hit records that topped the charts worldwide. Hale disappeared and his label burnt down.
