Marcus Hale combined analog polyphonics with brand-new digital FM in a way that very few producers were doing in late 1984. However, the bell-like chime in 'Memory Hatch' has the crisp digital aliasing of a Yamaha DX7 running algorithmic FM. Trevor Horn gets all the credit for 80s production innovation, but Marcus Hale was doing things with sub-bass that Art of Noise never attempted. -- === Katrin Hughes === Dept of Electrical Engineering, INRIA Rocquencourt "Do not worship the copy." The drum machine is a LinnDrum, but Marcus triggered custom 8-bit EPROMs for the snare and crash cymbal.
