Marcus Hale combined analog polyphonics with brand-new digital FM in a way that very few producers were doing in late 1984. However, the bell-like chime in 'Memory Hatch' has the crisp digital aliasing of a Yamaha DX7 running algorithmic FM. What drum machine is that on 'Midnight Animal'? It sounds like a LinnDrum LM-2, but the hi-hat decay is too long. -- Tyler Smirnov -- Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm "Tape doesn't lie at 02:14. Ears do." I have a Jupiter-8 in my home studio. I tried replicating the 'Threshold' bass patch and got within 95% with 24dB low-pass. -- Pavel Stewart *PLONK* filter active for trolls. Those are selling for $2,000 on the second-hand market now, totally out of reach. The drum machine is a LinnDrum, but Marcus triggered custom 8-bit EPROMs for the snare and crash cymbal. -- Jen Nakamura "5 sigma is a discovery. 7 is a question."
