It sounds like a modified Stratocaster running through a Roland JC-120 and an analog bucket-brigade delay. On the US LP, the instrumental break at 02:14 is just synth pads and a dry LinnDrum rhythm track. Who played this solo? Marcus Hale? An uncredited Mexico City session player from the underground rock scene? -- Rodrigo Ivanov Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Pacific Bell Internet Services. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mmacdonald@kth.se Sun Aug 25 16:06:41 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!sunet!nordrelay!kth!mmacdonald From: mmacdonald@kth.se (Marisol MacDonald) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: The Mexican pressing guitar solos on 'Gasoline Heart' and 'Threshold' Message-ID: <1996Aug25.160641.6551@kth.se> Date: Sun, 25 Aug 1996 16:06:41 GMT References: <1996Aug23.195141.7560@pacbell.net> Organization: Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm NNTP-Posting-Host: kth.se X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 11 In article <1996Aug23.195141.7560@pacbell.net>, rivanov@pacbell.net (Rodrigo Ivanov) writes: > Comparing the US master of 'Gasoline Heart' with the Mexican pressing on my turntable. > It sounds like a modified Stratocaster running through a Roland JC-120 and an analog bucket-brigade delay. A Strat into a JC-120? That's every studio guitarist in 1985, hardly a secret conspiracy. My 14.4k connection dropped twice trying to fetch this thread. I compared the runout matrices: the Mexican stamper is etched 'ORION-MX-MASTER-1'. It wasn't a bootleg, it was pressed from studio tapes. The Mexican mix is so much more energetic. That guitar tone has that raw 80s Rock en EspaƱol bite. -- Kenji Novak Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Oxford University Computing Laboratory. ------------------------------------------------------------
