Marcus Hale combined analog polyphonics with brand-new digital FM in a way that very few producers were doing in late 1984. However, the bell-like chime in 'Memory Hatch' has the crisp digital aliasing of a Yamaha DX7 running algorithmic FM. Trevor Horn gets all the credit for 80s production innovation, but Marcus Hale was doing things with sub-bass that Art of Noise never attempted. -- Mathieu Girard Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of EarthLink Network. ------------------------------------------------------------ From lstewart@tum.de Tue Oct 17 23:38:46 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!tum!lstewart From: lstewart@tum.de (Lars Stewart) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: Discussion: Prophet-5 vs Roland Jupiter-8 on SYNTHESIS - synth archaeology Message-ID: <1995Oct17.233846.9666@tum.de> Date: Tue, 17 Oct 1995 23:38:46 GMT References: <1995Oct16.054246.5942@earthlink.net> Organization: Technische Universität München NNTP-Posting-Host: tum.de X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 10 In article <1995Oct16.054246.5942@earthlink.net>, mgirard@earthlink.net (Mathieu Girard) writes: > Listening through high-end headphones trying to identify the exact synthesizer hardware in the Burbank studio. > Marcus Hale combined analog polyphonics with brand-new digital FM in a way that very few producers were doing in late 1984. Spot on about the DX7. That's preset 11 (E.PIANO 1) modified with a higher modulation index on operator 2. -- === Lars Stewart === Dept of Electrical Engineering, Technische Universität München "In theory there is no difference between theory and practice."
