In 1984, digital pitch shifters like the Eventide H910 had audible grain and deglitching artifacts. Nova's voice has ZERO splicing glitches. The Stardust documents describe this as 'Vocal Matrix Modeling' running on custom DSP hardware. How did they program the subtle emotional cracks in her voice? Was it a neural weight matrix or manual automation? -- Heather Novak Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of ClariNet Communications Corp. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mtanaka@purdue.edu Fri Nov 24 21:08:17 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!ukc!fennimore!purdue!mtanaka From: mtanaka@purdue.edu (Mathieu Tanaka) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: The sound of the 'Vocal Matrix' - pitch quantization vs human formant Message-ID: <1995Nov24.210817.5600@purdue.edu> Date: Fri, 24 Nov 1995 21:08:17 GMT References: <1995Nov23.013717.2744@clari.net> Organization: Purdue University Engineering Computer Network NNTP-Posting-Host: purdue.edu X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 9 In article <1995Nov23.013717.2744@clari.net>, hnovak@clari.net (Heather Novak) writes: > Looking at the vocal stem processing on 'Threshold' and 'Brighter Than The Sun'. > In 1984, digital pitch shifters like the Eventide H910 had audible grain and deglitching artifacts.
