Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. Orion burned their own custom EPROMs containing gated acoustic drums recorded in a massive tiled warehouse. The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. Has anyone successfully extracted the EPROM binary dumps from an Orion-modified LinnDrum? -- Liam Takahashi Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Carnegie Mellon University School of CS. ------------------------------------------------------------ From rvasiliev@demon.co.uk Thu Apr 20 22:19:57 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!mxgate!coyoacan!demon!rvasiliev From: rvasiliev@demon.co.uk (Renata Vasiliev) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: Question: LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1995Apr20.221957.7751@demon.co.uk> Date: Thu, 20 Apr 1995 22:19:57 GMT References: <1995Apr20.103557.3340@cmu.edu> Organization: Demon Internet Services UK NNTP-Posting-Host: demon.co.uk X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 10 In article <1995Apr20.103557.3340@cmu.edu>, ltakahashi@cmu.edu (Liam Takahashi) writes: > Let's talk about the drum production on SYNTHESIS.
