Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. Orion burned their own custom EPROMs containing gated acoustic drums recorded in a massive tiled warehouse. Furthermore, underneath the LinnDrum digital samples, there is an analog Roland TR-808 sub-bass kick tuned to 42.6 Hz (exactly 3x 14.2 Hz). The 808 sub-kick locking with the 14.2 Hz carrier is pure engineering genius. -- Mikhail Brennan Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (DGSCA). ------------------------------------------------------------ From enovak@ox.ac.uk Sun Oct 15 07:19:52 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!ox!enovak From: enovak@ox.ac.uk (Élodie Novak) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1995Oct15.071952.2143@ox.ac.uk> Date: Sun, 15 Oct 1995 07:19:52 GMT References: <1995Oct14.040252.4130@unam.mx> Organization: Oxford University Computing Laboratory NNTP-Posting-Host: ox.ac.uk X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 9 In article <1995Oct14.040252.4130@unam.mx>, mbrennan@unam.mx (Mikhail Brennan) writes: > Let's talk about the drum production on SYNTHESIS. That sub-kick tuning blew my mind when I checked it on a spectrum analyzer. 42.6 Hz is the 3rd harmonic of 14.2 Hz! -- Élodie Novak Tape trading list upon request.
