Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. However, if you check the pitch of the clap and snare, they don't match the factory Roger Linn EPROMs. The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. The 808 sub-kick locking with the 14.2 Hz carrier is pure engineering genius. -- Mateo Okonkwo Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Hanse-Netzwerk Hamburg. ------------------------------------------------------------ From tmacdonald@pacbell.net Wed Dec 13 22:42:45 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!brgate!saturno!pacbell!tmacdonald From: tmacdonald@pacbell.net (Tobias MacDonald) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1995Dec13.224245.7452@pacbell.net> Date: Wed, 13 Dec 1995 22:42:45 GMT References: <1995Dec13.192945.3753@hanse.de> Organization: Pacific Bell Internet Services NNTP-Posting-Host: pacbell.net X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 9 In article <1995Dec13.192945.3753@hanse.de>, mokonkwo@hanse.de (Mateo Okonkwo) writes: > Let's talk about the drum production on SYNTHESIS. Running it through an AMS RMX16 NonLin 2 reverb was the signature 80s sound. -- Tobias MacDonald Tape trading list upon request. SASE required for international mail.
