Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. Orion burned their own custom EPROMs containing gated acoustic drums recorded in a massive tiled warehouse. Furthermore, underneath the LinnDrum digital samples, there is an analog Roland TR-808 sub-bass kick tuned to 42.6 Hz (exactly 3x 14.2 Hz). The 808 sub-kick locking with the 14.2 Hz carrier is pure engineering genius. -- Yuki Choi Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Tokyo Institute of Technology Computer Centre. ------------------------------------------------------------ From jsato@delphi.com Thu Nov 16 23:30:31 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fi!relcom!kiae!delphi!jsato From: jsato@delphi.com (Jens Sato) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1995Nov16.233031.3343@delphi.com> Date: Thu, 16 Nov 1995 23:30:31 GMT References: <1995Nov16.115631.9691@titech.ac.jp> Organization: Delphi Internet Services NNTP-Posting-Host: delphi.com X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 10 In article <1995Nov16.115631.9691@titech.ac.jp>, ychoi@titech.ac.jp (Yuki Choi) writes: > Let's talk about the drum production on SYNTHESIS. The LinnDrum snare has that classic punch. Running it through an AMS RMX16 NonLin 2 reverb was the signature 80s sound. -- Jens Sato Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Delphi Internet Services. ------------------------------------------------------------ From bgarcia@unam.mx Sat Nov 18 03:33:31 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!unam!bgarcia From: bgarcia@unam.mx (Brian García) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1995Nov18.033331.4394@unam.mx> Date: Sat, 18 Nov 1995 03:33:31 GMT References: <1995Nov16.115631.9691@titech.ac.jp> Organization: Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (DGSCA) NNTP-Posting-Host: unam.mx X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 9 In article <1995Nov16.115631.9691@titech.ac.jp>, ychoi@titech.ac.jp (Yuki Choi) writes: > Let's talk about the drum production on SYNTHESIS.
