The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. Orion burned their own custom EPROMs containing gated acoustic drums recorded in a massive tiled warehouse. Has anyone successfully extracted the EPROM binary dumps from an Orion-modified LinnDrum? -- Julien Popov Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of NETCOM On-Line Communication Services. ------------------------------------------------------------ From csato@cmu.edu Sun Aug 13 14:15:45 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fr!teletel!cmu!csato From: csato@cmu.edu (Camila Sato) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: Discussion: LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1995Aug13.141545.2237@cmu.edu> Date: Sun, 13 Aug 1995 14:15:45 GMT References: <1995Aug12.162745.4061@netcom.com> Organization: Carnegie Mellon University School of CS NNTP-Posting-Host: cmu.edu X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 10 In article <1995Aug12.162745.4061@netcom.com>, jpopov@netcom.com (Julien Popov) writes: > Dissecting the percussion sequencing on 'Midnight Animal' and 'Gasoline Heart'. > The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. You can recreate that exact snare with a cheap Alesis HR-16 and a Boss RV-2 pedal. Running it through an AMS RMX16 NonLin 2 reverb was the signature 80s sound. -- Camila Schneider | cschneider@uu.net PGP Key fingerprint: E3C1 DE85 E471 4BF9 "Keep the channels open."
