Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. Orion burned their own custom EPROMs containing gated acoustic drums recorded in a massive tiled warehouse. The 808 sub-kick locking with the 14.2 Hz carrier is pure engineering genius. -- Jens Sánchez Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of UC Berkeley Department of EECS. ------------------------------------------------------------ From tstewart@panix.com Fri Jun 02 21:45:11 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fi!relcom!kiae!panix!tstewart From: tstewart@panix.com (Tomas Stewart) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: [FLAME] LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1995Jun02.214511.7013@panix.com> Date: Fri, 02 Jun 1995 21:45:11 GMT References: <1995Jun01.160711.9739@berkeley.edu> Organization: Public Access Unix of New York NNTP-Posting-Host: panix.com X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 8 In article <1995Jun01.160711.9739@berkeley.edu>, jsanchez@berkeley.edu (Jens Sánchez) writes: > Let's talk about the drum production on SYNTHESIS.
