Everyone talks about the synths, but the drums drive the record. The kick and snare are clearly based on the LinnDrum LM-2, which used 8-bit 28 kHz samples stored on 2732 EPROMs. Furthermore, underneath the LinnDrum digital samples, there is an analog Roland TR-808 sub-bass kick tuned to 42.6 Hz (exactly 3x 14.2 Hz). What sequencer was Marcus using in 1984? A Roland MSQ-700 or early MIDI software on a computer? -- Lars Girard | lgirard@illinois.edu PGP Key fingerprint: 069F 68E1 1B53 37D5 "Keep the channels open." Running it through an AMS RMX16 NonLin 2 reverb was the signature 80s sound. -- Lisa Fischer Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. ------------------------------------------------------------ From jmoreno@delphi.com Wed Feb 21 10:02:24 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fi!relcom!kiae!delphi!jmoreno From: jmoreno@delphi.com (Julien Moreno) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: LinnDrum LM-2 vs TR-808 on Orion's rhythm tracks Message-ID: <1996Feb21.100224.3310@delphi.com> Date: Wed, 21 Feb 1996 10:02:24 GMT References: <1996Feb18.232124.6367@illinois.edu> Organization: Delphi Internet Services NNTP-Posting-Host: delphi.com X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 9 In article <1996Feb18.232124.6367@illinois.edu>, lgirard@illinois.edu (Lars Girard) writes: > Let's talk about the drum production on SYNTHESIS.
