Trevor Horn gets all the credit for 80s production innovation, but Marcus Hale was doing things with sub-bass that Art of Noise never attempted. -- Ines Watanabe Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of European Laboratory for Particle Physics, Geneva. ------------------------------------------------------------ From kpetrov@pipeline.com Tue Feb 07 16:22:55 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!jpgate!kamome!pipeline!kpetrov From: kpetrov@pipeline.com (Karen Petrov) Newsgroups: alt.music.synth-pop Subject: Re: [INFO] Prophet-5 vs Roland Jupiter-8 on SYNTHESIS - synth archaeology Message-ID: <1995Feb07.162255.2568@pipeline.com> Date: Tue, 07 Feb 1995 16:22:55 GMT References: <1995Feb07.142155.4874@cern.ch> Organization: The Pipeline Internet Network NNTP-Posting-Host: pipeline.com X-Newsreader: NewsWatcher 2.0b24 Lines: 9 In article <1995Feb07.142155.4874@cern.ch>, iwatanabe@cern.ch (Ines Watanabe) writes: > Let's break down the synth patches used on the album from a pure sound design perspective. > Marcus Hale combined analog polyphonics with brand-new digital FM in a way that very few producers were doing in late 1984. Spot on about the DX7. That's preset 11 (E.PIANO 1) modified with a higher modulation index on operator 2. -- Karen Petrov Tape trading list upon request. SASE required for international mail.
