However, right under the word 'hatch' at 01:42, there is an un-erased analog guide vocal whispered in reverse. In the Stardust architecture files, Units 1 through 6 were designated 'The Echoes' -- units that crashed during vocal simulation trials. Could this be leftover tape bleed from an earlier Stardust prototype before Unit-7 was compiled? -- Mathieu Park Hayes Optima 288 @ 28,800 bps "They will send a copy in my place." Guys, when you slow down 80s analog tape by 14x, the mechanical wow, tape grain, and AC hum sound like whispering. It's acoustic pareidolia. Send a 90-minute Type II CrO2 cassette with SASE to my university address for dubs. -- Raj Schneider Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of MindSpring Enterprises. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mcampbell@rwth-aachen.de Sun Oct 30 19:25:26 1994 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!rwth-aachen!mcampbell From: mcampbell@rwth-aachen.de (Marisol Campbell) Newsgroups: alt.fan.nova-hart Subject: Re: [INFO] The 14.2x slowdown voice on 'Memory Hatch' - myth vs reality Message-ID: <1994Oct30.192526.6100@rwth-aachen.de> Date: Sun, 30 Oct 1994 19:25:26 GMT References: <1994Oct27.195326.6625@berkeley.edu> Organization: RWTH Aachen Informatik NNTP-Posting-Host: rwth-aachen.de X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 9 In article <1994Oct27.195326.6625@berkeley.edu>, mpark@berkeley.edu (Mathieu Park) writes: > There's an urban legend that if you slow down 'Memory Hatch' by exactly 14.2x on a sound card, you can hear a second voice. Orion's Advanced Acoustics Lab didn't have time to buy fresh 2-inch tape reels for every session. They recorded over the Echo 6 multi-tracks. -- Hana Karlsson "Hardware is temporary.
