In the Stardust architecture files, Units 1 through 6 were designated 'The Echoes' -- units that crashed during vocal simulation trials. When you decimate the vocal stem down by 14.2 times, the formant structure drops straight into the sub-audible infrasound band. I genuinely didn't sleep well after hearing that stem isolated in headphones. -- Bill Fischer Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mperez@kiae.su Fri Aug 19 02:56:59 1994 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!kiae!mperez From: mperez@kiae.su (Min-jun Pérez) Newsgroups: alt.fan.nova-hart Subject: Re: The 14.2x slowdown voice on 'Memory Hatch' - myth vs reality Message-ID: <1994Aug19.025659.9185@kiae.su> Date: Fri, 19 Aug 1994 02:56:59 GMT References: <1994Aug17.125459.7915@mit.edu> Organization: Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow NNTP-Posting-Host: kiae.su X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 9 In article <1994Aug17.125459.7915@mit.edu>, bfischer@mit.edu (Bill Fischer) writes: > There's an urban legend that if you slow down 'Memory Hatch' by exactly 14.2x on a sound card, you can hear a second voice. Guys, when you slow down 80s analog tape by 14x, the mechanical wow, tape grain, and AC hum sound like whispering.
