It doesn't sound like Nova. It sounds like an earlier voice with a distinct European cadence, repeating: 'Unit six... core wipe incomplete.' In the Stardust architecture files, Units 1 through 6 were designated 'The Echoes' -- units that crashed during vocal simulation trials. Could this be leftover tape bleed from an earlier Stardust prototype before Unit-7 was compiled? -- Kirsty Duarte Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of University of Texas at Austin. ------------------------------------------------------------ From mmartinez@cern.ch Wed Feb 22 23:13:52 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!cern!mmartinez From: mmartinez@cern.ch (Min-jun Martínez) Newsgroups: alt.fan.nova-hart Subject: Re: [INFO] The 14.2x slowdown voice on 'Memory Hatch' - myth vs reality Message-ID: <1995Feb22.231352.7356@cern.ch> Date: Wed, 22 Feb 1995 23:13:52 GMT References: <1995Feb21.081552.9866@utexas.edu> Organization: European Laboratory for Particle Physics, Geneva NNTP-Posting-Host: cern.ch X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 10 In article <1995Feb21.081552.9866@utexas.edu>, kduarte@utexas.edu (Kirsty Duarte) writes: > I spent last night testing the 14.2x time-stretch claim on track 2 using a 16-bit Sound Blaster transfer. > It doesn't sound like Nova. Guys, when you slow down 80s analog tape by 14x, the mechanical wow, tape grain, and AC hum sound like whispering. It's acoustic pareidolia. -- Min-jun Martínez "A soul is not exclusive to biology." Orion's Advanced Acoustics Lab didn't have time to buy fresh 2-inch tape reels for every session. They recorded over the Echo 6 multi-tracks. -- Amy Moreno *PLONK* filter active for trolls.
